Current Scholarship Opportunities

John Small “Spirit of Community” Memorial Scholarship

The John Small “Spirit of Community” Memorial Scholarship is presented to a graduating Senior from Upper St. Clair High School who has demonstrated exceptional involvement in academic, athletic, and/or artistic pursuits as well as in civic and community engagement. To be eligible for this award, applicants must have been accepted to a college, university, trade school, or the military. In addition, applicants must have meaningfully participated in at least two extracurricular activities for at least two years each, as well as served the community through civic engagement and service. This scholarship will be presented at Awards Night. The John Small Scholarship of $250 is available every year through 2022.

Please submit a completed application to the HS Counseling Office by April 27, 2019.


William A. Pope Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who is planning a post-high school education program. Applicants should provide an essay showing evidence of selflessness among peers and a willingness to help others through volunteerism; evidence of achieving the best in school performance, and that the applicant has limited opportunities to receive other academic or athletic scholarships. This scholarship will not exceed $500 and will be presented at Awards Night. The William A. Pope Scholarship of a maximum of $500 is available every year through 2022.

T.J. White Athletic Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who will attend a four-year college and plans to continue participation in his/her sport. The applicant must have been a member of a USC team sport for all four years of high school and received at least two varsity letters in that sport. A 3.2 GPA (grade point average) is required for consideration. This scholarship will not exceed $750 and will be presented at Awards Night. The T.J. White Athletic Scholarship of a maximum of $750 is available every year through 2027.

Scholarship Recipients

The Community Foundation of Upper St. Clair has been the depository for six college scholarships. The college recipients are carefully selected either by the high school or fund scholarship committees, acting totally independent of the Community Foundation. They are the Ted Barnett Scholarship, T.J. White USC Athletic Scholarship, Mary Elena Batz Scholarship, Joanne Szymanski Scholarship, William A. Pope, Ph.D, Scholarship, and Patrick O'Brien Memorial Scholarship. If you would like to donate to any fund, send a check payable to "CFUSC," put the name of the scholarship on the memo line, and mail to
